📍Foster home in ABQ
Daniels arrived at the shelter as a stray in December, 2023. He was adopted for 3 days in April but returned shortly after, for not being potty trained. Since being in foster care, he’s now a potty trained champ! He's a charming, loving boy- a happy go lucky guy, loving life in foster! In his foster home, he has learned to play tug, almost has fetch down, and plays nicely with both his foster siblings! (A male and a female). Daniels loves to play, his puppy gait is adorable. His playful nature is balanced with a friendly disposition. Daniels loves pets, and snuggling close and offering comfort. (He thinks he’s a 65lb lap dog)! He can be a little shy at first, and spooks easily. His sweetness is undeniable, his love unconditional. He walks okay on leash, and travels fantastic in the car.
🐶Dogs: Daniels has proven to be dog friendly, getting along well with all other friendly dogs he has met. Daniels has met many dogs, most of them close to his size. Daniels would love to go to a family with at least one other active pup to play with. If he is the only dog, he will have a lot of energy and probably annoy his humans. He will change his play style to match the friend, but if his only sibling were really old, we think he'd annoy them. Daniels is currently being fostered with two other dogs (female and male) and they are coexisting nicely, playing together, sharing toys, and cuddling. He hasn’t displayed signs of food, people, or toy aggression.
🐱Cats: Daniels did an overnight with a cat, and did great! However, he does want to play with the cat. If a cat doesn't like dogs, it may not be a good match. He is not currently housed with cats so he would need to meet some kitty friends again and would likely need slower/careful intros.
👶Children: Daniels seems to be afraid of small kids. He gets scared, tries to run away and tucks his tail. We can't figure out the size, or the trigger, but when loud children are running towards him it seems to affect him the most. We'd be cautious of him going to a family with very small children.
🐕🦺Leash training: Daniels was a gem when he was in the shelter and first placed in foster, however, he now pulls. We're currently attempting to leash train him to pull less. Daniels was taken on a 7 mile hike, and he didn't get tired.. so that's something. He does get excited when seeing another dog while on leash, and struggles to focus on commands while walking.
🏠Crate training: Daniels is currently being crate trained. He eats his dinner in there, and also sometimes relaxes in there. Daniels is able to be in the crate for short stints when home alone, and will build upon this base.
🚽Potty training: Daniels is fully potty trained, and is being fostered in a house with a doggie door. He does not appear to mark, and he squats to urinate.
✨Other: Daniels is either an excited happy go lucky pup wanting to be near his hooman, or he's asleep. He only has two modes. He's great in the house, no accidents, only chews what is his. Rarely barks, will whine the first 5 min we leave the house (only if we walk by). He has chewed a few things we've left outside on the ground- all plastic items. He does get spooked easily and has chewed plastic items only outside in our yard. A chaotic home might be overwhelming for him. He does greet with a jump sometimes and little old ladies should be warned. Daniels also spills water everywhere when he drinks- another slipping hazard.
He did not have a single inquiry (other than the failed adoption) the nine months he was in City custody! Sometimes dogs in foster care through the shelter struggle to get exposure, even though being in foster is better than sitting in the shelter… they often miss out on potential adopters. Daniels is looking for a caring family to play and cuddle with! Is that you?
