Mindy was saved from euthanasia in her final hours by an amazing foster human! Mindy was brought to our volunteer’s home and was assessed for her compatibility with dogs and cats! Mindy was found as a stray and had been in the shelter for almost 2 months… Being young and playful, Mindy was becoming stir crazy and extremely stressed in the shelter environment which resulted in the shelter almost having to euthanize Mindy due to her quality of life in the shelter environment. Mindy is a young and healthy pup with no known long term medical needs/expenses. Here is what we know so far about Mindy!
Dogs: Mindy has met a huge variety of dogs, small & large, & has gotten along with everyone that she meets. She really wants to play with her doggy friends, so a playful dog sibling would mean a lot to her! She is currently being fostered with another female dog that is often not too fond of other female doggies. So far they have been coexisting nicely. Mindy took a biiiig intense correction from her sibling when trying to initiate play that her sibling didn’t want to do. Mindy listened and went about her business, romping around in the other direction.
Cats: Mindy did meet a cat, and was more or less respectful of the cat’s space. She listened to the cats swats and hisses. Mindy is not currently housed with cats so she would need to meet some kitty friends again and would likely need slower/careful intros.
Kids: Mindy loooooves humans! We have not been able to see her around young kiddos yet, but she hasn’t shown us any signs that she *wouldn’t* enjoy the presence of kiddos.
Leash training: So far Mindy is reportedly not reactive on leash and pulls minimally, if at all!
Crate training: Mindy sleeps throughout the night in her crate & does well overall! Her first night was rough being crated and not being able to see her foster human… but that is understandable!
Potty training: Mindy appears potty trained so far. She is new to her foster home & is still getting a handle on the routine!
Mindy is such a sweet, spunky, & affectionate girl with so much love for her humans. Mindy rode AMAZINGLY in her freedom ride to her foster home. Her foster describes her as goofy and medium-high energy right now. She has not been triggered by the doorbell or cars going by & is overall really chill, given the circumstances she came from! We plan to transfer Mindy into another rescue soon, but if she finds an adopter before that, that’s even better!
***this information about Mindy is all super new. We wanted to start spreading the word about Mindy ASAP in case we can miraculously get her a forever home before potential transport out of state on 9/7
