If you're looking for a 70 pound Velcro dog who never wants to leave your side, Sam is your guy! He'll stick to you like glue-whether you're lounging on the couch or playing fetch in the yard. This ~ 2 1/2 year old boy is a snuggle addict who more than anything wants to curl up next to you on the couch with a blanket (or two!). He's got those BIG glossy puppy dog eyes that will melt your heart and keep you coming back for more affection! His foster family loving calls him “Mr. Big Head”, but would also argue that his heart is his biggest attribute.
Sam is a true people-pleaser and a quick study. He knows sit and shake, and is working on lay down, “drop it” and stay.
Since he is still fairly young, Sam does need moderate amounts of regular exercise to help get his zoomies out! After the occasional zoomies he is such a low-key guy who is perfectly content to rest whenever you are and binge watch your favorite Netflix series.
Honestly, his foster mom and dad are so thankful for this because, after a long day, they don’t want a hyperactive dog bouncing off the walls. That being said, he has been spoiled and spends daily time with his foster grandparents and their 2 dogs who love to play!
Dogs: He's dog-friendly and loves hanging out with other pups of all sizes. Sam is polite when meeting new dogs, and he's up for both calm play or a game of chase! His foster parent try not to let him play tug-of-war too much since, well, he will just never lose! His current friends include a large female yellow lab, and smaller female terrier mix, and a 5 year old chocolate lab with whom he shares his foster parents. He has been respectful to all his furry “girlfriends”, but does sometimes need reminder to “be easy” during pack play time since he’s outweighs them all.
Cats: Sam is cat-curious? Neutral? Cautious? He's met a cat before and has been neutral and respectful. While he hasn't lived with them, he's definitely open to learning how to coexist with your feline friends and was respectful during his cat exposure testing.
Kids: He's gentle and sweet with kids, though a little standoff ish at first. He's met a 2-year-old who loved to throw the ball for him, and he enjoyed it! Just be warned, he loves to give kisses!
Crate: He LOVES to sleep in his crate at night after being tucked in, but is still working crate training during the day and much prefers to be snuggled up next to you or join you on your adventures! He's done well in the crate so far and hasn't destroyed anything, but might cry a little before settling down. Potty training is going great, though he his foster parents notice he will pace a bit when he has to go potty instead of heading to the back door.
Energy Level: Sam has a decent energy on a daily basis and enjoys walks and a game of fetch, but at the end of the day he's just as happy lounging with you on the couch. He's a perfect mix of playful and chill-always ready to join you in whatever you're up to. He loves adventures in the car, but is admittedly a bit of a back seat driver. He does remarkably well in busy social environments and pet friendly restaurants.
In short, Sam is the perfect mix of fun, love, and would be the perfect addition to any loving family that is willing to give him the unconditional love, daily exercise, and cuddles he so truly deserves!
