Argie
1-2 year old
Neutered male
Pitbull/boxer mix
Fully vetted
Argie sat at the shelter for over 6 months with no interest. He was used time and time again to evaluate other dogs coming into the shelter for their dog friendliness. Despite this, his perfect size (40lbs) and adorable face, he continued to be looked over.
Dogs: dog-friendly, as previously mentioned, Argie was a dog tester at the shelter. And part of a play pair! He is currently fostered with two doggy siblings (male and female). However, due to his young age, he can be a little slow on the social cues. While Argie enjoys licking his foster sister face, he also loves soaking up all the human attention and would be fine with or without siblings.
Cats: cat-curious. Argie has met one cat and did well! At first he wasn’t interested, then when he got too close got cat slapped he learned his lesson. Argie seems more interested in dogs than cats. However, if going to a home with cats, he may need some direction and instructions on how to behave properly since he doesn’t currently live with cats.
Kids: Argie has not met many kids, and currently lives with only adults. He has a gentle soul and would probably do well. However, he is still young, and can get mouthy while playing, we always encourage teaching your kids appropriate dog interaction skills.
Crate: Argie picked up nighttime crate time in one day and now goes in with “crate” and stays there quietly for the whole night! Argie has spent short stints in his crate during the day and has done well. However, if you are home- he’d rather be with you and will verbally let you know. He would absolutely prefer to be with you… but he will settle in the crate eventually. He hasn’t escaped or destroyed anything while in his crate. Argie is potty trained, and has been since day one. But, like all dogs, may have a few accidents in new or unfamiliar places.
Energy level: Argie is young and wants to be where the action is! He walks great on leash but has given no indication of getting tired. In the back yard he likes playing tug, or one sided fetch. Argie enjoys boppin around the house checking in on what everyone is doing. But, give him a nice chew, bone, or toy, and he’ll curl up and entertain himself.
